The Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) has developed and implemented a new process that affords providers the opportunity to apply for relief in the event an OMIG audit may pose a financial hardship to the organization. This process is also available to Medicaid entities that have self-disclosed and are unable to repay their Medicaid overpayment within a two-year repayment term.
Providers that have received a Final Audit Report and wish to apply for financial hardship consideration, or self-disclosing Medicaid entities that have been directed by the Self-Disclosure Unit to do so, may contact OMIG’s Bureau of Collections Management (Bureau) at [email protected]. The Bureau will send to the provider - or self-disclosing Medicaid entity - a Financial Hardship Application. Upon receipt, OMIG will review the application and make a determination as to an appropriate repayment plan. Providers and self-disclosing Medicaid entities must complete the application in its entirety to be eligible for relief. Those providers who already are in a repayment agreement with OMIG will be required to complete an application upon their one-year review by OMIG.
